Inside the Women’s Unit at Delaney Hall Detention Facility

When I first met Ariadna, she was still inside Delaney Hall Detention Facility in Newark, New Jersey. She translated for the other women inside, helping me learn their stories. Now that she’s out, she’s still shining a light on their experiences.

The stories she has told me are striking:

Women with serious medical concerns not receiving the treatment they need. Moms using the money they saved for their children’s futures on legal fees. People who are detained and in severe mental health crises. Families separated and children without their parents.

Ariadna has been incredibly brave. But she shouldn’t have had to be.
